Mountain Cabin: Brings the Highlands look down the mountain. Uses hemlocks, cedars, and pine trees with native azaleas, rhododendrons, and hardy ferns. Add a wild flower meadow, rock walls, and dry riverbed drainage. No lawn area.
Formal: Tightly pruned and manicured look. No more than 10 plant varieties. Boxwoods, hollies, ligustrums, arborvitaes, large hardwood trees, and shrub roses. Zoysia grass lawn. Specimen trees.
Natural: Not wild and weedy, but loose and casual look using native plants, trees, flowers, and rock accents. Usually in wooded lots. Keep all large trees in place. Use leaf mulch or pine straw.
