  • Fall is for planting trees, shrubs and perennials. Enjoy fall blooming shrubs such as Encore Azaleas and Camellias. Add fall color with Maples, Burning Bush and Nandina.
  • Divide or transplant spring blooming perennials.
  • Fescue should be fertilized mid-month with Espoma Organic 18-6-12.
  • Now is a good time to plant Fescue seed. Protect seed with straw and keep moist for two to three weeks. Zone 7 has several turf type fescue seed choices.
  • Bring annual color in your garden by planting Pansies.
  • Plant perennials such as Asters, Mums and ornamental grasses for fall color.
  • Plant cool season vegetable seeds such as cabbage, lettuce, beets, turnips, spinach, radishes, collards and broccoli.
  • Do not fertilize Zoysia, Centipede or Bermuda lawns after this time. Let them prepare for dormancy.
  • Fertilize all shrubs with Holly-tone (1/2 the spring dose)
  • Fertilize Perennials and trees with Plant-tone
  • Apply Amaze™ brand pre-emergent weed control to all beds to stop weeds from germinating.
  • Prune Loropetalum, Holly, and Gardenia now. Do not prune Camellia, Azaleas or Forsythia.
  • September is ending the season of laying warm season sod. You should get it down now or wait until next season.
